I go through a lot of phases in my life, but I always manage to circle back to my favorite phase, loving fashion, Since I’m in the midst of one of these phases, I’ve been binge watching a TON of fashion documentaries. So many that Kyle is actually picking up French because of it. Whoops. I have about 15 hours of docs under my belt for just this week alone, so you know I’m in pretty deep at this point.
Favorite Fashion Docs
The September Issue – If you have even a mild interest in fashion or the fashion industry, you need to watch this doc. It’s an in-depth look at how the famed September issue of Vogue is made. If you’ve never worked in fashion or for a magazine (lucky you…) you’ll gain a newfound respect for the sheer amount of hard fucking work that goes into producing an issue of a magazine. If you have/do work in fashion or for a magazine, you might have flashbacks to having to work through the night on a piece because your editor changed their mind at the last second.
Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton – One of the most popular luxury brands, and the bad boy that helmed all creative direction from 97 – 14. I absolutely love seeing Marc Jacobs stressed out, chain-smoking, and learning about his supplement routine. It’s an amazing look back at the creative process, and if you’re like me, it will have you searching online for a Murakami cherry print Louis. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Mademoiselle C – Following the E-I-C of French Vogue, Carine Roitfeld, you’ll see her venture into making a book, with the signature punk-meets-classic-french style we’ve become accustomed to from her tenure at french vogue.
Scatter My Ashes At Bergdorf’s – What does it take to make the I C O N I C Bergdorf Goodman’s run? You’ll find out in this fun documentary. If this doesn’t make you want to book a flight to new york and max out all your credit cards at Bergdorf’s, I really can’t help you. This doc has a bunch of very famous people talking about arguably the best department store in the world. (However, I’m still a Bloomingdales girl.)
Iris – If you’re a person that loves standing out, rather than blending in, you’ll love IRIS. She’s an old lady with a metric fuckton of style. From her interior design work, to the giant baubles she wears around her neck, she’s truly a rare human being.
The Gospel Of Andre – This movie is still in theaters, but it is a must watch. If you’ve followed Andre Leon Talley at all throughout his career (even his stint on ANTM!) You’ll love this. From his roots in the south, to becoming a fashion icon, you’ll absolutely love the journey and process it takes to get to the top.
